Meet the founder

Beautiful Roots Education was founded by Katie Bearden who was born and raised in the Reno/Tahoe area. Katie earned a degree in Human Development and Family Studies, from the University of Nevada Reno. She has more than 10 years of experience working with families and children of all backgrounds.

Her past endeavors included wedding and event planning as a creative outlet and being a Child and Family Specialist for lower-income families. She is passionate about art and nature while enjoying every moment with her two beautiful babies, Taylor and Tristan.

She founded Beautiful Roots Education after she witnessed beautiful connections in her daughter’s learning around, well, nature. She also wanted something easy for any parent, at any skill level, to implement with their child.

She has a heart for the local community and nonprofit work and hopes to find ways to use this program to give back to the community.

“The love, passion, art, and dedication behind these curriculums are truly palpable. I would strongly recommend to anyone looking for a great head start. We love BRE!”

our programs foundation

foundation 1: NATURE-BASED

Beautiful Roots Education is a nature-inspired program and curriculum for families of young children. It is founded on children strengthening gross and fine motor skills, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and personal growth by engaging in play outside and exploration of their environment.

foundation 2: family focused

Beautiful Roots wants its families to take the time to create beautiful moments with their children during the learning process. Simply asking questions and being present with them encourages more than just a learning opportunity; it creates core memories, a sense of self and purpose, appreciation, and a bond. We also encourage all family types and parental figures to participate in groups and have recently added a grandparent day to honor all generations.

Step 3: DEVELOPMENTALLY appropriate

Research proves that the first five years of a child’s life can determine their future learning skill sets and success. Children are designed to crave exploration, ask questions, and test limits. It’s how they learn. Beautiful Roots Education wants your child to go outside, climb trees, and take a moment to examine plants, holes, stumps and so much more. We provide developmentally appropriate activities and lessons for your child and are constantly changing them to fit those needs'; as they also continue to grow and develop.

foundation 4: going the extra mile

In our program we support the saying, “It takes a village.” We honor this by recognizing our groups as a family that takes care of one another. We encourage families to reach out to others if they are in need. Something as simple as a cup of coffee or meeting up for a playdate. We provide gift baskets to celebrate pregnancies and milestones, and we encourage the group to come together if there is ever a need or hardship in that group.

foundation 5: COMMUNITY focused

Our program believes in the importance of giving back to our community. We set intentions to teach our little ones about kindness and taking care of our environment. Our program finds ways to involve the community such as participating in park clean-ups, trash walks, fundraising, or holiday gift drives.
