A Holiday Surprise

This past semester we were able to participate in two wonderful heart projects. Learning about nature and our environment is only one part of our programs. We want the children to learn the importance of every creature and every plant’s purpose in our world, but we would be ignorant not to touch on the humans that also share our world. Being able to show kindness to others in our community in different ways is a huge part of this program.

For our Hearts for the Holiday projects, we used the month of October to help collect funds for a close family in our group, whose little one was diagnosed with cancer unexpectedly. While it wasn’t a large sum, being able to put a small dent in the outrageous medical costs related to childhood cancer, was very important to us as a whole.

The second project we chose was during Christmas. Our children adopted a couple of families through the Children’s Cabinet to purchase gifts for them. At our holiday party, we had a moment to read about how to show kindness with an amazing nature-inspired story called, “Finding Christmas,” By Lezlie Evans. Not only is this a child-friendly story for the holidays, but it represents small sacrifices we can make for someone who needs it more.

Each of our little ones was able to receive their own copy of the story to take home, SIGNED individually by the author. It was the perfect touch to the day.

We finished with the families wrapping their gifts and dropping them off at the Children’s Cabinet.

PS Not Sponsored by anyway, but highly recommend this story for you and your family this holiday!
